What is Acne Scarring?
Acne scarring is an inflammation of the skin that is caused by the reaction of the skin to acne, where the skin tissue is destroyed causing fibrosis. The fibrosis then is likely to change the skin texture. This happens both in the surface and underlying layers of the skin, causing scars.
There are many types of acne scarring, and each one will vary accordingly to the healing process of each skin/type of acne. The most common reason for the scarring is inflammatory acne. The scars can appear with any type of acne, be it a low-grade, and/or non-inflammatory.
These acne scars may include rolling, ice pick, and box scars, which are the most common ones. There are also post-inflammatory hypopigmentation and keloid scars. The treatment for those may also vary not only accordingly to the type of scar, but also to each person’s skin type and conditions, as well as other factors, such as the value and time of treatment.
Which Acne Scar Treatment Will Be the Best for You?
Solihull Medical Cosmetic Clinic offers a range of acne scar treatments, but as mentioned above, each type of treatment will vary according to the conditions of each individual and their type of acne.
Dr Sagoo, our cosmetic doctor, will help you to choose the best treatment, or even a combination of treatments, so we can offer you the best solution possible, but to help you to understand a bit better about the treatments we offer at our clinic, we have added below a small description of some of the different types of treatments we can offer you.
Our topical creams and medication treatments may include:
Topical creams, gels, or lotions with acid-like drugs, benzoyl peroxide and antibiotics, as well as oral antibiotics that can help reduce the bacteria and inflammation caused by acne. As a practising GP, Dr Sagoo prescribes medications, including birth control pills that may help control acne.
Hyaluronic Acid and Fillers:
Fillers are very known to help rejuvenate the skin, but not many know about their benefits as an acne scar treatment. Both hyaluronic acid and fillers are made to restore the volume of the skin, being great for depressed areas of acne scars, also stimulating collagen production.
Laser Resurfacing:
Laser resurfacing is a type of treatment that can help both with acne scar treatment, as well as with reducing facial wrinkles. The laser resurfacing uses CO2 lasers that boost collagen production, being helpful for deep acne scarring and moderate ones.
Radiofrequency Microneedling:
Lookalike to the dermarollers, the radiofrequency microneedling (Fractora) acne scar treatment can help improve the skin tone and texture thanks to the micro-lesions that are caused by the ablation and skin resurfacing of the radiofrequency microneedling.
